Let's Meet Kim! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I have been running my own canine behavior consulting business for several years - Unleashed My Dog. I work with dogs and pet parents in their homes to help overcome unwanted behavior issues such as barking, leash reactivity, fear, separation anxiety, and so on. I have a special interest in helping rescue dogs.
I also work as a Pet Training instructor for a large pet store.
How did you benefit from your experience at ABI?
My classes at the Animal Behavior Institute gave me a well-rounded knowledge base in all things "dog." I also learned the information I needed for my exam with the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) to become a certified canine behavior consultant (CCBC-KA).
What was your favorite course?
Canine Health and Nutrition. It made me realize how much nutrition and general health status can affect and influence a dog's behavior. It's had a positive impact on my training.
How did you complete your field experience?
I volunteered to work with dogs at local animal shelters. I assessed dogs and wrote and carried out training plans for dogs who needed a little help before they were ready to be adopted. I still do this on a volunteer basis for several local shelters. It's wonderful to help a dog overcome a behavioral issue and see them cleared for adoption into a permanent home.
Would you recommend ABI to others?
Yes, I would definitely recommend the Animal Behavior Institute. The instructors were knowledgeable and helpful. The course material was interesting and useful. I liked having the freedom to work on assignments when I had time. I also enjoyed having easy access to instructors when I needed more information or answers to questions.
